Projects are readable text
A .xanproj file is versioned JSON. You can diff it, fix it by hand or generate it with a script.
Video editor · Windows · macOS · Android
Xanora is a video editor for people who shoot and edit on their own. Timeline, preview, effects, subtitles and export — every everyday task has its place in the window. No account in the app, no cloud, no telemetry.
How Xanora works
A .xanproj file is versioned JSON. You can diff it, fix it by hand or generate it with a script.
An edit is a record in the project, not a change to your media. Source files stay untouched where they are.
Cuts, keyframes and export share one timeline — what you see in the preview is what ends up in the file.
You need neither an internet connection nor an account to edit. Media and projects stay on your disk.
Features
A layout you know from everyday editors: library, preview, inspector and timeline.
Drop files into the library — Xanora reads resolution, frame rate and duration and shows thumbnails.
Trim, split, move and ripple with snapping. Multiple video and audio tracks, keyframes on transform, opacity and volume.
Volume envelope, crossfades, music beats on the timeline and a one-click “keep speech only” that removes the silences.
Speech-to-subtitles right on your computer (Whisper) — the recording never leaves it. Custom styles, search in spoken words and text-based editing.
A catalogue of transitions between clips — from dissolves to wave or mosaic. A new transition is a data file, not a new app version.
Filters, chroma key, LUTs, stabilisation and reframing for vertical formats.
An edit template picks the best shots, cuts to the music and fades the music out at the end. Every automatic edit can be undone.
Export presets including 9:16, 1:1 and 4:5, progress you can cancel and upload to YouTube straight from the export window.

FAQ
We give preview releases to people we can reach — if a serious bug turns up, we can write to you. The app itself needs no account and sends nothing about you.
Current releases are previews. The editor core works from import to export; newer features are still being tested on real footage. Please let us know about any bug you find.
Not for editing. You need it to download the app, once to download the model the first time you transcribe speech, and to upload a finished video to YouTube if you want to.
The installer is not code-signed yet. Click “More info” and then “Run anyway”. You can verify the file with the SHA-256 checksum shown next to the download button.
The app is signed but not notarised by Apple. The first time, right-click it, choose “Open” and confirm.
Download the .apk on your phone and open it. The phone will ask you to allow installing apps from the browser — that is normal for installs outside Google Play.
Sign up and download the version for your system.
